In 2008 - 2009, I purchased two sunglasses within six months from separate retailers. During a science museum tour, I lost my sunglasses and had to go to the nearest SH to replace them. (I have macular issues that requires top tier polycarbonate sunglasses.) Six months later at the state's train museum, I had a lens fall out of the frame! I was forced to buy another pair at Mxxy's. These frame/lens developed issues a three months after purchase. (Anyone who shops Mxxy's knows these are locked in a case.)
They had me jump through hoops to get them to replace two polarized sunglasses that cost me will over $400 with sales tax. The quality issues were a few months apart purchased in San Jose and Sacramento. I contact Oakley customer service via phone. Four stars to the Oakley rep who took my call. He told me what he needed to enact the warranty.
I had the exact dates, receipts, credit card statements in hand ready to fax to Oakley for their review. (Spouse is OCD about keeping receipts and budget spreadsheets.) Once the Oakley rep had these in hand, my sunglasses were replaced, but it two weeks after I paid for $$$ for Priority Ship and insurance to return them. Note, I have had no issues with the replacements or Oakley Fives 2.0 purchased years ago at the optometrist.
Recently in 2010, I lost another pair when they fell out of my luggage. I doubt if I will shell out $$$ to buy another Oakley until QA is improved. Oakley is often compared to Maui Jim and Revo. Those companies have two year warranties. Maui Jim has EXCELLENT customer service. Not sure about Revo. So, unless you bought your sunglasses at your optometrist, expect to jump over hoops to get your sunglasses replaced.
